Head of Market Access

Location: Lexington or Remote

The Role: The Head of Market Access will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategies to ensure optimal access for patients, and seamless reimbursement for Agenus’ products. This leader will have a bold vision for ensuring that Agenus demonstrates the value of its products to Payers, Healthcare Providers and Patients in the US and Global markets. The Head of Market Access will drive market access initiatives, engage with key stakeholders, and navigate complex healthcare landscapes to maximize patient access and commercial success. This position will report to the Chief Commercial Officer and be responsible for all products in the Agenus portfolio.

In the role you will:

Market Access Strategy Development:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive market access strategies to optimize product reimbursement and coverage.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory teams, to align market access strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Stay abreast of evolving market access trends, policies, and regulations to proactively anticipate and address potential challenges.

Reimbursement and Pricing:

  • Lead pricing and reimbursement strategies to ensure appropriate market positioning and product affordability.
  • Conduct pricing analysis, including comparative pricing assessments and financial modeling, to inform pricing decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to prepare and submit reimbursement dossiers, value propositions, and pricing proposals to payers and government bodies.

Payer and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key payer stakeholders, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and reimbursement decision-makers.
  • Engage with payer organizations to understand their needs, priorities, and evidence requirements.
  • Collaborate with Government Affairs, Medical Affairs and Health Economics teams to generate compelling clinical and economic data to support reimbursement negotiations.

Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR):

  • Collaborate with HEOR team to generate robust health economic models and real-world evidence to demonstrate product value and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leverage health economic data to support market access submissions, value dossiers, and reimbursement negotiations.

Pricing and Contracting Negotiations:

  • Lead pricing and contracting negotiations with payers to secure optimal reimbursement rates, formulary placement, and patient access.
  • Develop innovative pricing and contracting strategies, including risk-sharing agreements and performance-based contracts, to enhance market access and value proposition.
Recruiting and Managing the Team:

  • Annual objective setting
  • Mid-year and end of year reviews

  • Employee development
  • Recruitment, selection, and development of talent

Qualifications: About You

  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPH, PhD) preferred.
  • At least 12 years of experience in market access, pricing, reimbursement, or related roles within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing market access strategies, securing reimbursement, and navigating payer landscapes.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, payer organizations, and reimbursement processes across different markets.
  • In-depth knowledge of health economics, health technology assessment (HTA), and evidence-based medicine principles.
  • Experience in pricing analysis, financial modeling, and value-based pricing strategies.
  • Proven ability to negotiate with payers and secure favorable reimbursement terms.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex market access concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with a track record of developing and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical mindset, and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to navigate and adapt to changing market dynamics and evolving market access regulations.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
